Newday is a six day camping event for young
people where we get to encounter Jesus together.
We spend time worshipping God, listening to
teaching from the Bible and praying together in
our main meetings, and in our smaller seminars
we can choose from a wide range of topics and
issues and learn how to apply God’s word to
the way we live. We have the chance to put God’s love into action in the local
community with lots of outreach and social action projects in Derby and the
surrounding area to choose from – and of course there are loads of opportunities
to relax and make new friends in the cafés, through the sports programmes or
at the live gigs.
Newday is aimed at 12-19 year olds, which
means those currently in school year 7
upwards. We also have a teaching stream
for students and those in their twenties.
In addition, many adults come to
Newday to look after the thousands of young people,
or to join our volunteer workforce – we
couldn’t run the event without them! –
and some bring their younger children, who can join our Kids’ Work groups
in the mornings, for those aged 3 - 11. We don’t offer a crèche for the very
young, but we do provide an unsupervised venue with a small range of toys
plus refreshments available, where parents can take their babies and toddlers
under 3 years old. Newday is an event for young people with a strong
Christian flavour throughout. Young people come to Newday in church groups,
and most (although by no means all) of these are part of the Newfrontiers
family of churches. However, you don’t have to be a Christian to come,
nor to belong to a particular denomination. (In fact, we have lots of
opportunities for you to find out what being a Christian is all about, in a laid
back, non-threatening environment.)
